Back in 2015, we all thought that Phase5 would make new Commdore 64 keycaps for all of us to enjoy (link). As that went down the drain, another keycap crowdfunding campaign was launched in late 2019. This time with someone who was known in the community. Despite heaps of delays due to Covid and Chinese manufacturing issues, we all got new keycaps during the summer of 2023. Wup wup! The keycaps are now sold from CBMSTUFF in the US (link).
I got three colors spanning from clear transparent, to blue and black transparent. Thus, it was time to toss out the out the original brown keycaps and install some nice fresh new ones…
Below are images of the black and blue transparent keycaps that is mounted in my C64 Reloaded machines (link, link) in transparent C64C cases.
When I got my sets of keycaps it quickly became evident, that some of the keys had various ‘faults’. The issues ranged from skewed/tilted prints on the front and top of the keycaps, to prints being on the wrong row of keycaps. I can only imagine the headache and hours spent, sorting that one out. However, it all got sorted out and I ended up with three sets of perfect new Commodore 64 keycaps for my machines. Nicely done!
